Between the 13th and 17th October, Dominic Fine Art will be exhibiting at Philip Mould & Company in London. The gallery was established in Plymouth in 2022 and seeks to reframe the works of “forgotten masters.” But before dealing in pictures, Dominic Sanchez-Cabello worked as an antique dealer, gaining some insight into how the works of lesser-known talents can languish in the ill-lit corners of provincial salerooms. The catalogue includes a selection of rediscovered paintings, as well as original research into the contributions of forgotten artists. It includes two studies by Emma Soyer, whose catalogue he is currently compiling.
I am excited to be exhibiting at Philip Mould & Company, exactly 3 years after I opened my gallery in Plymouth. It is a long-held personal ambition and I can even recall an episode of Fake or Fortune with a Constable sketch. I forget the details, though by the end of the episode I had decided I would quite like to be an art dealer. I have spent the last few years trying to work out how to become one. Philip Mould & Company have consistently raised the status of overlooked artists. They have also brought the mysteries of the art market to a wider audience, even to an antique shop in Plymouth. I am grateful for that.
“Dominic has a great and scholarly eye as the works in this show demonstrate, and it is delightful to have played a very small part in his impressive trajectory.” - Philip Mould
